17: 5 Practical ways to increase listener trust, connection and emotional resonance

Do you ever wonder how to truly connect with your podcast listeners and make a lasting impact? You're not alone! In this week’s episode, I'll be discussing valuable insights on increasing listener trust, connection, and emotional resonance. I'll cover five practical tips for authenticity, the power of one-on-one conversations, and leveraging your unique voice.

(0:00:50) - Building Trust in Podcasting

People do business with those they like and trust, and podcasting is no different.

In fact, podcast listeners are seven times more likely to buy products and services advertised on podcasts in comparison with other mediums.

To increase listener trust, connection, and emotional resonance, consider these five practical tips:

  1. Be Authentic: Don't try to be someone else, as your listeners can easily sense it. Instead, be your most authentic self and find your tribe. Remember that people already do business with you because they like who you are, so don't try to be a media personality.

  2. Leverage One-on-One Conversations: About 90% of podcast listeners consume content alone. This means that you have one-on-one quality time with your listener. Make use of singular terms and vocabulary that includes just one person, and create an intimate, no-transcript conversation with your listener.

  3. Show Your Humanity: Share both the hardships and the celebrations in your podcast. Refer back to a time when your favorite creator had a hardship and you connected with them. Sharing these struggles and journeys will help build trust with your listeners.

  4. Offer Value: Don't be afraid to share what you know and how much knowledge you have. Giving away content and knowledge can actually attract listeners and turn them into clients or customers.

  5. Highlight Your Community: Frequently celebrate and acknowledge your community. This will turn passive listeners into super fans who become the best advertisement for your show.

    Maximizing Your Podcast's Impact

To create meaningful engagement with your audience and build trust, keep these additional tips in mind:

    1. Be authentic and talk to a single person, not a crowd.

    2. Don't be afraid to offer value and share your knowledge.

    3. Celebrate milestones and involve your community in your accomplishments.

    4. Offer value by differentiating yourself in the space and sharing things that make you the go-to expert.

    5. Highlight your fans often. Give them shout outs, talk about the things they ask you, and make sure to have their approval first.
